Prepare yourself to discover not one but two marvelous castles; Vaux le Vicomte and Fontainebleau ,located one hour from Paris.
The visit will begin with Vaux le Vicomte, this classical architectural masterpiece inspired Louis XIV to imagine and build the Palace of Versailles. Built in the middle of the XVII century, the domain of Vaux le Vicomte Castle is the fruit of the collaboration of three prestigious and talented artists: the Landscape Gardener Andre le Nôtre, the Painter-Decorator Charles le Brun and the Architect Louis le Vau, all reunited by Nicolas Fouquet, Finance Superintendant of the Sun King, Nicolas Fouquet, a powerful Court Financier to Louis XIV, rendered the King so jealous when he saw his castle, that it persuaded him to decide to build Versailles in order to have a castle “at least as beautiful”. Vaux-le-Vicomte’s continuing fame is due to André Le Nôtre’s stunning gardens, some of the finest in the Ile-de-France region.
Thanks to an audio-guided visit, you will discover the private apartments of Nicolas Fouquet, the formal reception halls as well as the castle’s main kitchen and vaulted cellars. Take time out as well, to walk through the beautiful French Garden, housed in the 35 hectare domain; composed of sculptured tree-shrubs, numerous bodies of water and magnificent multi-coloured flowerbeds.
Departure from Vaux le Vicomte, for the visit of the second castle in the heart of the Fontainebleau Forest. The journey between the two castles takes around 30 minutes.
Napoleon once called this intriguing castle “True home of Kings, House of Ages”! Indeed, with over 1,500 rooms situated in over 130 acres of parkland and gardens, Fontainebleau is the only royal and imperial castle which has been continuously lived-in for almost eight centuries: The Houses Capétiens, Valois, Bourbons, Bonaparte and Orléans, have all occupied this; the most palatial of residences. It is a particularly rich example of French architecture and is home to one of the most outstanding collections of antique furniture ever assembled. After the visit, you can admire the vast park that surrounds the castle, as well as the charming gardens.
Once you have finished your Royal Visit, your "in-house" Driver-Guide will be waiting for you, driving you back safely to your hotel, or apartment.
